In this two-day workshop, Nancy Van Ness guides artists through the process of transforming old oil paintings that feel like disasters into striking masterpieces. Open to all styles and subject matters, the workshop encourages experimentation with oil and other mediums to breathe new life into existing works.
Participants will learn how to identify which parts of their paintings to preserve and which to rework completely. The focus is on mastering new techniques such as layering, glazing, scraping, and integrating additional materials to achieve bold transformations rather than subtle fixes. Artists will develop creative problem-solving strategies and explore compositional and stylistic adjustments to enhance their paintings’ impact.
With Nancy’s extensive experience and personal artistic insights, this workshop aims to inspire confidence and skill in reviving paintings, helping artists turn frustration into artistic success and create works they can proudly call masterpieces.
Supplies to bring;
1 or 2 paintings to rework, on canvas or paper.
